Celebrating 2023 International Women’s Day in Japan

International Women’s Day (IWD) is held every March 8th to celebrate women’s achievements and to discuss ways in which we can push towards gender parity. This year’s theme is #EmbraceEquity.
There are several ways to celebrate International Women’s Day in Japan, including the great upcoming events listed below. Unless otherwise stated, these events are not sponsored by or affiliated with Women in Science Japan in any way.
March 8th at 18:30: #EmbraceEquity: Speed Mentoring by Women in Tech. Through speed mentoring sessions, you will have the opportunity to meet and learn from a variety of women in tech, who will share their experiences, insights, and advice. Our mentors come from a range of backgrounds and areas of expertise, including software development, data science, career development and UX/UI design. WISJ Co-founder Elizabeth Oda is one of the mentors; we are proud to be a community partner for this event!
March 8th at 18:00: CWAJ International Women’s Day Special Event - Japanese Women Leading the Way. A frank and friendly discussion about the future of women’s lives and social advancement with three Japanese women who are leaders in business and science. Hear their personal experiences and perspectives, followed by a Q&A and a networking reception with the speakers. Join us to take part in this rare opportunity!
March 8th at 19:00: Joining Forces on International Women’s Day 2023 to #EmbraceEquity. We are pleased to invite Junko Kubokawa, Representative Director and President, Croda Japan KK, Natalia Sanz Laviña, CEO, YSLA Architects, Hiroko Suzuki, President & CEO, Kyowa Industrial Co., Anne-Line Rey, Sales Project Director, Head of Osaka Expo 2025, GL Events Japan KK, and Tomoyo Hiraoka, VP, Chief HR Officer, Mitsubishi Chemical Group, to share their insights on the topic, acknowledging the work already being done in organisations and communities to respond to workplace inequities, and addressing what the key roles are for individuals, corporates and governments in pushing the agenda forward and taking the strides needed to truly advance gender equity in the future.
March 15th at 17:00: A Path Towards Our Gender-Equal Future. This event will bring together legal professionals, lawyers, senior leaders and advocates from various fields in the legal sector to discuss the current status and challenges of gender equality in Japan, along with the actions taken by corporations, businesses and the legal community to forge a path towards a gender-equal future for Japan.
March 16th at 18:00: The Future of FemTech: Build and Learn Workshop. The Future is Female — and we believe the innovators, creators, founders, and designers who shape that future should build products with women in mind. Learn about the history and state of FemTech in Japan and then practise building the future with a design sprint focused on addressing the problem of workplace equity.
